#SewPINK Initiative: A Blog Hop with ByAnnie.com

10/27/2019 09:10:00 PM

It's my turn to host a stop on the #SewPink initiative blog hop, a hop organized by Annie and her amazing team at byannie.com. During this month, the byAnnie team has organized an awesome blog hop where you can visit different bloggers to get some great project and pattern inspiration! Read my blog post, see how you can win a $30.00 gift card at emmalinebags.com, and also purchase products at byannie.com and have a portion of the proceeds go to breast cancer research. Being October, and breast cancer awareness month, it's a great time to reflect on the seriousness of testing and screening for breast cancer.

ByAnnie will be donating 30% of profits on all SewPINK items sold on their web store, so I thought it would be fun to stitch up a couple of great patterns by Annie, and show you how you can use their products to make AMAZING things and also contribute at the same time. I did LOVE sewing these, so it is a win for me.

I spent last weekend with 17 other ladies at a sewing retreat in Jasper, Alberta. So much fun! While I was there, I made up the Travel Essentials cosmetic organizer, using some of the byannie's mesh and zipper by the yard. I used some Tula Pink fabric, by Free Spirit, from her Pinkerville collection and it turned out so darn cute.

Below are my fabric picks....

And my awesome handle... as per instructions.

This is me being coy and cameral shy...    I LOVE this fabric for this cosmetic organizer!

Here I am with the nearly completed project, it just needs binding. Can you see how the unicorn placement ended up? It was a total fluke! The way this pattern goes together is so smart, and the finish looks so good, I am very happy with it!

After that I made 2 of the "Made about Mesh" bags. For these I used the byAnnie fold-over elastic, mesh and zippers by the yard. In fact, I used the same package of zippers that I used in the cosmetic organizer, and still have a lot left over. These are both the medium bags, and they are HUGE. I think I could make some small ones too and be happy, but I am no sure what I would use a large one for.

These went together really easily, and actually I found sewing the elastic around the mesh very quick, easy and kind of satisfying!

So I made this on the weekend just a few days before I traveled to Houston, Texas to Quilt Market 2019. Of course, they came with me. My makeup and brushes, hair clips all went in the cosmetics organizer, and my socks and 'unmentionables' in the mesh bags. It worked great, and I haven't traveled with handmade items in a long while so it felt great to bring something along that I made.

Today I dumped out my makeup and brush, and carted my Travel Essentials bag down to the the showroom floor to see Annie! I thought it would be great to show her my bag to pose for a blog picture. Here I am with Annie herself, and her great design. Really, if you get a chance to meet Annie, please do. She is so friendly and kind!

Back to my sewing weekend in Jasper last weekend...
The Rocky Mountain Quilters Guild is an amazingly friendly and fun group of women who all have so much fun together and it was so fun to stitch up these things while surrounded with so much laughter and friendship!

While I was there, I asked a few questions about Breast Cancer and how it has affected them. Out of 18 participants, including myself:

- All 18 have had a friend with Breast Cancer.
- 10 have had a family member with Breast Cancer.
- 1 has had Breast Cancer herself.
- 17 out of 18 do regular mammogram screenings
- only 6 do regular self-exams.

Breast Cancer seems to affect everyone, and I think we are learning that the only way to stay ahead of it is regular screenings. I hope someday we can find a cure. See how you can contribute below!

Thank you so much for reading. I'd like to offer you a contest and a chance to win a $30.00 Gift Card during this blog hop.  I hope you enjoy stopping at all of the posts along the hop too!

Enter to win below, the contest ends Oct 31st, 2019.
