  15. I like cotton. Easier on my machine and me.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think it depends on the size of the bag and how much I love the fabric :) Smaller bags work better with quilter's cotton but I like how decor weight has the added thickness for larger bags.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I prefer décor or other heavier weight fabrics for the exteriors of bags and purses and quilting cotton for the linings :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. 5000 followers! You deserve it, and more! :)

  19. I like décor fabric due to the weight of it. I will use quilting fabric if I like the pattern on the fabric.

  23. I would rather sew bags with quilters cotton because there are so many designs to choose from.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Quiter's cotton because it is plentiful!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I enjoy using quilter's cotton best for making bags.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I have always used cotton though decor fabric sounds interesting and it's always on sale

    ReplyDelete
  30. I've only used cotton but plan to branch out to other fabrics

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm new to bag making (just finished my first) and used quilter's cotton, but I'm looking forward to trying other types of fabrics.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I have seen purses I like in both. I guess it depends on the stabilizer and look you are going for. I personally don't like too slouchy purses. I like them to have structure, so with the right interfacing, both would work.

    ReplyDelete
  34. No preference, I like the looks of all of your projects. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Janelle so glad to see that your business is growing. Love your patterns and hardware. Thanks for the chance to win such a great prize.

  39. I've only made bags with quilting cotton, and they definitely needed more support than what I gave them... perhaps trying to use decor weight fabric is the answer. :) Thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I love the weight of decor fabrics, but quilting cotton offers more design choices! I use both! Thanks for this awesome giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I make most of my bags with quilter's cotton. They hold up just fine. Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I usually use a combo of quilting cotton and a twill as I like the extra durability. Vinyl and home decor are fun too ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I love the home dec fabric from Ikea. It is bright and funky and the price is great!
I also use a lot of quilting cottons, so I can get exactly the colour I am looking for.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I use quilting cotton mostly because I love the variety. I'm branching out into leather! I bought half of a cow hide but I'm afraid to cut it! LOL It's sitting in my sewing room as "inspiration" or a constant reminder of my cowardice!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I like the decorator fabric because of the weight, but quilters cotton can be interfaced to make a lovely bag. I have used both with great results.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Decor weight, unless I find a cotton pattern/ color I can't live without.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I usually use quilters cotton, but also love the heavier weight of home dec, pleather and other fun textures. I just change my interfacing accordingly....

  52. I like using printed or solid canvas and also quilting cotton for bags.

Congratulations, Janelle, on some winning designs and a growing and thriving business!

  53. That's a tough question Janelle. I have so much quilters cotton being a quilter, so i tend to use that the most, however I have used and do see some lovely home decor fabrics out there, so I guess it really depends on the color and print of the fabric and the bag in question as to what fabric I would choose to use.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I like to sew them with quilter's cotton, since there are so many awesome patterns and colors! The home deco stuff is nice for stiffness, but with interfacing and soft and stable (or headliner foam), it doesn't make that much of a difference when I use the cotton.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I use both - depends on the style of the bag!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I use both, depends on what it's being used for.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I'm more visual than kinesthetic.....l'm happy with either quilting weight fabric or home dec - I go by the pattern. This can be a problem if I fall in love with a viole - too thin.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I prefer decor fabric in a bag, but will use either.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I use a variety of quilting cottons, burlap, home dec, faux suede, etc. Why limit yourself to just one type - mix it even in a bag! Love all the possibilities.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I prefer decor fabrics but use both!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I think I would prefer decor fabric!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I use everything, but gravitate to the heavier upholstery fabrics.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I love to use both quilters cotton and decorator fabrics, I have used tea towels cannas duck laminated crocheted some with plastic grocery bags no rules here.

  65. I love to use both cotton and decorator fabrics. crystalbluern at onlineok dot com

    ReplyDelete
  66. I prefer home decor fabrics or twill but since quilting cottons have so many prints I use them too.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I don't know if my first comment went through? But I like using whatever fabric really. Depends on what kind of look I am going for and what is available in either decor or cotton.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I prefer sewing with cottons; I prefer the wauy home decor fabric looks. Thank you for the chance to win.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I like using both, but tend to use more quilting cotton. It's funny, most of my home dec weight fabric is from clearance table cloths I've picked up at Target!

    ReplyDelete

  73. It really depends on the bag and its intended purpose. I like home dec fabrics for sturdy, hardworking bags, quilters cotton (with their gorgeous patterns) for lighter duty bags, and even dressy apparel fabrics (sequined, lace, etc.) for special occasion bags.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I often use quilting fabric because I have a good stash, but some furnishing fabric makes gorgeous bags. I have some large sample books I'm going to use in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I will use what-ever strikes my fancy! I have a wonderful collection of vintage fabric that I sometimes dip into....and if a fabric is not heavy enough for a bag, I will back it with interfacing and an extra strong lining. Creativity and getting outside of the box is my goal ~

    ReplyDelete
  76. I prefer the decor fabric- it needs to hold up to the way I throw my bag around!

    ReplyDelete
  77. I generally prefer quilting cottons, but I will use home decor if I like the print!

    ReplyDelete
  78. I love making bags of all sizes and types. I nearly always use quilter's cotton but have made a few with duck cloth. I want to try laminated cotton next.

What a fun week of giveaways!

    ReplyDelete
  84. I would use quilting cotton, it's easier to sew and to my machine :)

    ReplyDelete
  85. I make purses and bags as gifts for my circle of close friends. I use whatever fabric they love best but they all love Zen Chic's modern graphics!

    ReplyDelete
  86. I love both depending on the design of the bag ...sometimes one looks better than another on the style of bag you're trying to make

    ReplyDelete
  87. I'm a newbie so I'll be starting out with the lightweight stuff, but I do hope to work my way up to the heavier weight fabrics. Some bags just need a more substantial cloth.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I like them all, seem to be using a lot of batiks now.

    ReplyDelete
  89. It all depends on the type of bag and what it will be used for. Sometimes I use quilter's cotton and other times I use decor fabric or denim.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I usually use quilter's cotton because of the large variety of prints and colors. But, I must add, the home dec fabric holds up so much better!

    ReplyDelete
  91. I like to use all types of fabric depending on the design and use of the bag. Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  92. I usually use quilter's cotton for my bags. But, I will use anything and everything if need be. It all depends on the look of the bag.

    ReplyDelete
  93. It's hard to go past the variety available in quilting cottons.

    ReplyDelete
  94. So far I've only used quilters cotton for bags

    ReplyDelete
  95. Need new fabric! Time for a fall version of the Butterfly Sling Bag!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  96. I like to use quilters' cottons, and do quilting to enhance the bags' design.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I use both but I prefer decor weight. Most of my bags have denim in them somewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I love your patterns! Congratulations on reaching this milestone.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I like to sew with quilter cotton

    ReplyDelete
  100. I generally sew bags with quilter's cotton, but I do love the more structured feel I get withe using duck or canvas or decor fabrics.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Up to now, I always made bags with home dec fabric, but now I am quilting, so I want to try with quilting cotton.

    ReplyDelete
  102. For me, it depends on the type bag - totes do well in heavier fabric, smaller purses in quilting cottons. There are beautiful fabrics in both weights - so much temptation!
Janelle, congratulations on doing so well with your business; you have great products and amazing customer service.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I like them both, but lately have been into Linens! Very nice bags!

    ReplyDelete
  104. I use both. Heavier weights for totes and the lighter quilting cottons for softer sling bags and market bags. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  105. It depends on the pattern and the look I am going for. I recently sewed two messenger bags which were totally different from each other. The first one - a VW camper van bag was quilting cotton weight and the second was from a wool suit. Both were for a 17 yr old and a 18 yr old - so slouchy and recycled and quirky.
    Thanks for the fab giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I usually use decor fabric for bags

    ReplyDelete
  107. I use quilters cotton for casual bags. I've used velvets, satins and other dressy materials for evening type bags and demins and canvas type material for the 'need to carry everything with me' bags.

  108. I have used both quilters cotton and home Dec fabric. It depends on the pattern. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  110. I prefer working with quilters cotton.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Have only made twoTotes with Decor fabrics.....preferred using the Quilting Cotton for most patterns I have made. Thanks :)

    ReplyDelete
  112. Yes quilting cottons and yes to home dec and to leather. The problem I have with home dec is there are many with cute patterns but I'd I just want a plain navy, brown, black or grey for the bottom there are hardly any choices or they're are so incredibly thick I can't sew them on my machine. And leather isn't washable but if its paired with quilting cotton, the cotton needs to be washed occasionally.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Yes! :) I mostly use Home Dec fabric because that's what I have. I use to live near a store that had INCREDIBLE prices on Home Dec Fabric. I sure miss that store. However, I love many of the designs of quilters cotton.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I use quilting cotton from LQS stores. Would love to try dec fabric, but have been chicken, so far.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Mix of both. Love the variety of quilting cotton, but prefer the weight of home dec.

    ReplyDelete
  116. I will use anything. Lightweights, decor fabrics, quilted, vinyl. Basically anything within my reach.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I will use anything - denim, linen, quilt cottons, home dec. it all boils down to either what is in my stash or what catches my eye at the time.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I like to use both quilting cotton and home dec.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I usually sew with quilters cotton because it is easiest to find, but like the structure of decorators fabric.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I am a novice bag maker and I have use both types of fabrics, but I need to learn more about the correct stabilizers to be successful

    ReplyDelete
  121. I love quilting cotton, but I'm getting braver and the heavier fabrics are beautiful! Your patterns have helped my sewing skills grow so much!

    ReplyDelete
  122. Decorator fabrics put up with more abuse but you can't pass up the selection in quilters cottons so for me it can depend on the bag

    ReplyDelete
  123. I love a simple clean bag design so I tend to use home decor fabric much more often. However I am often so inspired by the great designs people come up with using quilting cotton. I just get so overwhelmed with the fabric choices at the store!

    ReplyDelete
  124. Thanks so much for this chance! I am loving the look of that jelly roll!

    ReplyDelete
  125. I just choose what's pretty and hope it works!

    ReplyDelete
  126. I have used quilters cotton on most handbags, but I have tried satins and silks, velvets, decor fabrics, and denim. I have even made a messenger bag from an outdoor banner and a seat belt. I think the fabric depends on the type of bag being constructed.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I will give most fabrics a try - especially if I think the design will suit what I am making

    ReplyDelete
  128. I would sew them with quilters cotton or canvas. sarah@forrussia.org

    ReplyDelete
  129. I used to use mostly quilt fabrics but amusing more decor fabric due to the increased strength and needing less interfacing. There aren't as many cute prints in decor fabric but there are still plenty of cute ones to keep me inspired. I also like linen, heavy silks and refashioning fabrics.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Hi, I have just completed your Emmaline bag using a decor fabric, I love the extra stability it gives the bag, but for your ncw I will stick with quilting fabric.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I usually like to use a heavier weigh fabric so décor fabric! thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  132. I mostly have quilting cotton on hand so that's what I sew with.

    ReplyDelete
  133. I sew with alsorts. Quilters cotton, satin, decor weight. It depends on the size and purpose of the bag/purse. I love all fabrics so can't discriminate :)

    ReplyDelete
  134. I generally use quilters cotton a that's what I have most of, but I do like the weight of home dec fabric for bags

    ReplyDelete
  135. I prefer quilter's cotton - that's what I usually have on hand, and it's what I'm used to working with.

    ReplyDelete
  136. I love quilter's cotton, because it is easier to work with and there is such a variety of patterns and colours.

    ReplyDelete
  137. I dont have much Desire to sew bags, I say I am, I buy the stuff, I have sewn a couple cute ones for swaps and a AG contest and they arnt half bad... But I prefer not too.. its to stressful .. I did see where you make the bag out of Quilters Cotton and buy the handles, I should try that. maybe I would, but I carry the same purse for years. I like a nice leather designer bag for personal use with a long shoulder strap.

    ReplyDelete
  138. The Barcelona fabric would be great because I'm Spanish LOLL

    ReplyDelete
  139. I have only made a couple of bags and I used quilting cotton.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Love all your pretty fabrics! I am a bag nut too ;)

    ReplyDelete
  141. Can't wait to see if I win some goodies :) - thanks for the chance

    ReplyDelete
  142. I prefer to use quilter's cotton, I can always find something I like. I can't find good décor fabrics where I live. Thanks for the chance to win! jacklynnsteven at netzero dot com

    ReplyDelete
  143. Totally depends on the bag I think. Bigger bags made to haul a lot of stuff (I have 2 kids!) either need some strong interfacing or a heavier fabric in my opinion, but I love the enormous variety of quilters cottons out there! Sarah: crjandsbj(at)netzero (dot)com

    ReplyDelete
  144. I am happy to use either one. I usually base my choice on what type of bag it is and what it will be used for. And sometimes on what beautiful fabric I stumble across.

    ReplyDelete
  145. I make simple tote bags for charity, with duck cloth or some type of heavy fabric.
    Thanks,

  147. I tend to use home dec because I like a sturdy bag, but I'll use anything that I love.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I use both, depending on the look I'm going for.

    ReplyDelete
  149. I would rather use quilters fabric, less hassle. The thinner fabric is easier to work with.

    ReplyDelete
  150. For me it depends on the type of bag I am making - I like quilters cotton for some types and heavier fabrics for bags that need to be stronger.

  151. Thus far I have used quilting cottons because there is such a broad range of possibilities. But I am not opposed to using the other fabrics if I find something I like.

    ReplyDelete
  152. i have made bags with cotton, canvas and linen cotton blends. I really like using the blends the most.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Quite honestly, I have no idea which I prefer because I haven't yet made a bag. I'm new to sewing and have read countless DIY/instructional clips online, as well as read tons of books from my local library. I wish I knew someone nearby to actually watch, but until then, it doesn't look half bad. I'm seriously thinking of trying my hand at one of your simpler projects. Thank you for sharing all this wonderful information and "how-to's" for folks like me. :-)

  154. I usually use quilter's cotton when I make bags.

    ReplyDelete
  155. It really depends on the bag - I like to make totes out of decor fabric for better wear but small zip bags that don't need a lot of body from quilter's cotton. I've also reused (upcycled?) clothing. I'm a bit omnivorous when it comes to fabric. Thanks for the opportunity! notwendy gmail
