Are you a lover of designer bags? Do you see bags in magazines and stores and wonder how to recreate the look? Join us as we show you how to recreate designer bags and styles in the Handmade Couture Series! We will take existing bag patterns (many you probably already own), materials and Emmaline Bags hardware to show you how to make your own versions of designer bags and at a fraction of the cost. Today, we are going to show you how to make this Mansur Gavriel Moon Clutch.

The Mini Moon clutch is a chic minimalist style clutch that is perfect for a night out, or use it as a zippered case to stash your cosmetics or small necessities in your bag. It measures 6.5”H x 9.75” W x 2.25” D, has a small slip pocket inside and a zipper that opens wide. The exterior is made with a luxurious vegetable tanned leather, and the lining with a crisp canvas.
Like the look of this?  Lets be our own brand.

The Pampering Pouch is a great doppleganger to our inspiration bag, with the open wide zipper and the curved frame giving it the perfect moon shape. It measures W 14.5” x H 9” x D 4.5”.

Hardware:

The Pampering Pouch calls from a curved “C” frame, which you will want to get that crisp moon shape of our inspiration bag:

Also, to recreate the expensive look of our bag, add a metal zipper pull in a posh gold finish:

Instead of the embossed Label, add a metal bag to your clutch for the same professional look:

Fabric:

This beautiful coral reef cowhide from the Tannery NYC  is a great leather to recreate the look of the Mini Moon Clutch.

If leather isn’t your thing, consider a faux leather, like this cinnamon stick color faux leather from Sew Sweetness:

Another great option is natural cork fabric, which is available from MM Cork Supply in Canada or from Sew Sweetness in the US.  You can get cork in a various colors and finishes, like this red cork:

You can choose to do this in whatever fabric you are comfortable working with! A fun cotton print, canvas or even denim!  That's the benefit of creating your own, it's what YOU want it to be. Handmade can be couture too!
