Pattern + Hardware + Fabric= Handmade Couture
Sewing Pattern:
The Swoon Laney Reversible Hobo is a great match for our inspiration bag. It’s a casual slouchy hobo that would translate beautifully into leather. Bonus: it’s a freebie!
The Laney was designed for beginning bagineers and features a magnetic snap closure like our inspiration bag. Customize it further by adding your choice of pocket style in the lining. At 15” wide x 10” tall x 6” deep she is slightly smaller than our inspiration bag but you can choose to enlarge the pattern in you’d like a larger bag.
Laney features identical seams to our inspiration bag, use a contrasting top stitching along the front seams to recreate the look of the Cervo.
Hardware:
The Cervo is designed as a casual bag and is minimalist with hardware, for this look you just need 1 magnetic snap for the closure:
Fabric:
(Remember, Emmaline followers get 10% off purchases of 50 USD or more at The Tannery NYC using code: EMMALINEBAGS)
If leather isn't your thing, try some faux leather. Sew Sweetness carries faux leather in the perfect weight for bag making and has a beautiful red color:
Another great option is natural cork fabric, which is available from MM Cork Supply in Canada or from Sew Sweetness in the US. You can get cork in a various colors and finishes, like this red:
You can choose to do this in whatever fabric you are comfortable working with! A fun cotton print, canvas or even denim! That's the benefit of creating your own, it's what YOU want it to be. Handmade can be couture too!
