If you are a designer handbag enthusiast, the Handmade Couture series is for you! If you are like me, you swoon over designs you see in stores, magazine and on someone’s shoulder and wonder “how can I make that look”? Well, in this series we show you how. We present a designer bag then show you how to recreate that look using existing sewing patterns, materials and Emmaline Bags hardware. You can make the look at a fraction of the cost, and since it’s made by you, it’s made custom for YOU.
Today, we are going to show you how to recreate this Prada New Envelope Textured Leather Fuchsia Clutch
This beauty measures 7.8"L x 4"H and is made with fine grain italian cowhide leather in a gorgeous fuschia color. It’s a great staple for a night out or just to grab when you need minimalist style. It features a snap closure and card slot pockets on the inside. This lovely could be yours for only 400 USD.

Pattern + Hardware + Fabric= Handmade Couture
Pattern:
The Sakuro Clutch by Little Moo Designs is the perfect sewing pattern to recreate the Prada! It’s so spot on! It’s a quick sew and a perfect beginner pattern. We can easily make our own adjustments to get the look of the Prada at MUCH less than the 400 USD price tag. The Sakuro measures 10” L x 7.5” H. Slightly larger than our inspiration bag, but we can easily just reduce the size of the pattern to get a smaller clutch, or just enjoy the larger size to stuff that extra into your bag as you go out the door.
Luckily we need minimal hardware for this bag, but Emmaline Bags has you covered. Here’s what you need:
Instead of the Prada embossed Label, add a Script style metal bag label to your clutch for the same posh look:
Fabric:
The Tannery NYC has just the perfect leather for our Prada clutch, like this hot pink Italian Lambskin:
If you aren’t comfortable working with real leather, how about using a faux leather, like this magenta from Sew Sweetness:
Have you tried working with cork? It’s a great alternative to leather and faux leather and is surprisingly easy to work with. You can purchase high quality cork from Sew Sweetness in the US and MM Cork Supply in Canada. Check out the fuschia color that is perfect for our project:
You can choose to do this in whatever fabric you are comfortable working with! A fun cotton print, canvas or even denim! That's the benefit of creating your own, it's what YOU want it to be. Handmade can be couture too!
