I've already shown you the two "Block of the Month(s)" I'm doing this year, but I also indulged in a precut hexagon kit out of my most favorite fabric at the moment. I am absolutely gushing over Free Spirit's "Saltwater" by the very talented designer, Tula Pink. I just fell in love with her hexagon quilt done in a chevron pattern and had to order it. Isn't this beautiful? Sunset on the sea.

My kit arrived today, and I have to admit - I am big time scared. What have I gotten myself into? I am planning on machine piecing, using THIS awesome tutorial by Jacquie at Tallgrass Prairie Studio. I actually didn't think the hexagons would be so small. YOINKS!! They are 2 1/4" cut and will finish at 1 3/4" wide. I hope to do 1 row per day.... maybe?
I purchased my precut kit from Pink Chalk Fabrics, but now I see they are out of stock. No worries, if you are interested, Hawthorne Threads, as well as quite a few other shops, have them. The best part - no cutting!! Wish me luck.
hehe...hex on the beach! Looking forward to seeing the end result next year ;)
ReplyDeleteThat quilt is gorgeous and I have complete faith that your project will look just as wonderful! You go girl!
ReplyDeleteI have secretly wanted that kit since I saw it in the Hawthorne Threads newsletter... I love Tula Pink.
ReplyDeleteI Love Tula Pink too, and I do think this is my favorite line of all of her fabrics. Love the colors in Saltwater
DeleteWas just thinking atleast u don't have to cut them out" and then you said it. Absolutely love this quilt!!! Can't wait to see the work in progress!
ReplyDeleteWow, that is a beautiful quilt! You have more guts than i do. I had some one ask me about a hex quilt the other day and i put my fingers up in cross form and started backing away, lol. Can't wait to see it finished!
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you, I hope so!! Janelle
DeleteThanks for showing some pictures, looks like fun!
ReplyDeleteI really wanted this kit but I just couldn't commit to all those littles hexagons. :D
ReplyDeleteI purchased this kit too! I love the colors and anything that is beachy! I just started my kit and I'm enjoying hand sewing while watching TV or sitting on my patio. I love the portability of this type sewing. Of course, this will take me some time to complete. Good luck! I can't wait to see your finished quilt.
ReplyDeleteIs there anyway to get a copy of the pattern? Would love to make something like this!
ReplyDeleteHi Meghan, I think you would have to contact Tula Pink for that. She probably still sells it.
