The Luxie-Lunch Bag Pattern - A New Pattern Release - Contest closed!

Read all about my new pattern here,
and then enter to win 1 of 5 prizes at the bottom of the Post!

Updated - Winners are: Dawn Belanger, Mary Ann Weigand, Pam Hoppe, Jana C & Amanda Maes-Herron.

Carry your lunch, make-up, overnight items, or the entire contents of your handbag in luxury. This is a versatile project that features a wire frame that helps hold the top open wide for easy access. Customize the zipped bag to suit your needs by choosing from 2 handle styles, and adding the optional outside zipper pocket. (Strap length is ideal for a lunch bag, so if you are choosing to yours as a handbag, you may want to lengthen the straps.)

For a lunch bag, I recommend pre-washing your fabrics and using cotton for the lining so you can wash and reuse the bag as often as you need to. The frames are removable for washing! The foil backed thermal fleece/batting will help keep your food chilled. If you would rather have a wipe-clean lining in a lunch bag, you could substitute the cotton lining that I have recommended with laminated cotton, PUL, diaper liner, or nylon jacketing and use food safe containers. You could also substitute a wipe clean thermal foil-backed batting such as Insul-Shinetm for your lining.

Pattern Tester Bags!!

I had some wonderful ladies pattern testing for me. Thank you so much to all that tested, I am so thankful that you were so willing to help me at the last minute, while I was away from home, and totally unorganized. You made some amazing bags and had some amazing feedback for me. Thank you! I'd like to share some of the tester's photos. There were a lot of GORGEOUS photos and I hope you will all feel free to share them on the Facebook groups and elsewhere, I am just going to put up 1 or two of each.

Simone always chooses the most unique fabric, and has a real flair for colour. I am always excited to see what Simone puts together!

Sandy has done a beautiful job on her Luxie bag. She used some webbing for the straps and it worked perfectly. I also used a nylon webbing for straps on one of my bags and it worked very well.

Melisa used some beautiful Tula Pink fabric, and seeing how her bird needed to take centre stage here, she move the straps apart a little bit wider than in the instructions, and also made them a bit longer. I would definitely consider making the straps longer if you wanted to use it as a handbag, or carry it on your arm. Melisa lined hers with a waterproof PUL.

Barbara is using hers as a sewing bag and now she can cart everything with her to class. She added some extra pockets, and mentioned to me about how pleased she is that it holds so much!  I love that sewing themed fabric.

Christina's bag looks like it's ready to take a trip to a beachside hotel!  I've been using mine as a toiletries bag for traveling lately. It will hold my hair straightener and my curling iron. It will also carry my brush and shampoo! It holds plenty!

Deana's bag is also showing off some Tula Pink. She's ready for work with this one. I love these colours. It's just gorgeous!

Jayne made this one for her daughter to take to work, and I hear it was very well received. I know a lot of us adults have a weak spot for our Mickey!  It's super cute. She had some zippers with double pulls, and they worked beautifully. I hear Jayne's daughter now wants a handbag out of the pattern too!

I love Kimberlea's bag made out of this beautiful fabric with a Paris theme. I think I would definitely use this for a trip to Paris. It really worked out nicely.

Natalie always does amazing work with upholstery fabrics and vinyl on her industrial machine. She really enjoyed stitching up the bag and had fun with the piping. Natalie advises using a piping foot when working with vinyl.

Maxine really outdid herself here. She used fabric that you can colour, and laminated cotton on the inside. She even threw in a pack of crayons. The black/white with red is so striking together. I love it!

I love Terry's bag in purple. I know someone is going to love carrying her lunch in this one. Thank you, Terry!

I would love to see your finished bags too. Please make sure you share them in our Facebook Group: Emmaline Sewing Patterns Group, or hashtag them on Instagram #emmalinepatterns
